What are some important qualities of a good supervisor (boss)?- TOEFL Writing Independent Task Example

Sharing is caring!

What are some important qualities of a good supervisor (boss)? Use specific details and examples to explain why these qualities are important.

A good supervisor is someone who helps you to reach your goals and accomplish your tasks efficiently. In my last job for a retail company, I really enjoyed talking with my boss about how I might raise up through the ranks. One thing that I must highlight is how he gave me feedback. In fact he always explained my errors to me with patience, identifying also how to fix them. Although I could have a negative impact with my mistakes he never blamed me, instead he carefully made me aware of that and corrected the wrong behaviour.

Obviously, He was not a saint. His rule, and this is something that I really appreciate from a leader, was to allow “First time mistake”. However, he never accepted laziness. Moreover, he never tolerated people who repeated the same mistakes.

What is important to stress for a great leader is to avoid micromanaging people.

Some bosses try to plan out every action which their subordinates do and schedule every second of their day. I remember a friend of mine who had this kind of manager in his previous job. My mate noticed that with this leadership style the risk of suffocating innovation and problem-solving attitude is dramatically high.

Through these two stories the main skill of a boss is well defined. He is the leader who sets the bar for his team members, but doesn’t strictly define how they should overcome every single obstacle.
